Size Chart without Virtual Try-On
Most shoppers never open a try-on. They land on the product page, look at the size label, and decide. If the only size help in your store sits inside a photo flow, that decision happens without you.
AI Frame treats the two questions as separate. “How will this look on me?” is visual, and Virtual Try-On answers it. “Which size fits?” is numeric, and the Size Chart answers it. Because they are separate questions, a shopper has to be able to reach each answer on its own.
What stays on the page when Try-On is off
Pause try-ons, or limit Try On to certain product categories, and the glass Try On control comes off the photo. The sizing blocks do not follow it off the page.
On a product that has a Size Chart assigned, shoppers still get:
- A Size Chart link on the same row as the size label. One tap opens the chart.
-
On Starter and above, Estimate my size between the size picker and Add to cart, when recommendations are on and the shopper has not saved details yet.
- Once they have a Fit Profile, that same spot becomes Your size, with the recommended size, and the matching size pill is highlighted.
The chart and the recommendation read the product and the shopper. They do not wait for a render.
A size answer most shoppers never see is worth less than a decent one on every product page.
When to run sizing on its own
Three situations come up constantly with fashion stores:
The catalog is the problem, not the photo. A multi-brand shop, or any store where a medium is a different garment depending on the label, loses money on the numeric question first. Shoppers can often imagine the look. They cannot translate your size into their body. Put the chart and the recommendation on the page, and turn Try On on later for the categories where silhouette actually blocks the sale.
You are not ready to ask for a photo. Virtual Try-On needs a picture of a person, an explicit consent checkbox, and an AI label on the render. Some brands want that. Some want a season of sizing data before they do. The Size Chart path never asks for a photo and never reads a body from one.
Try-ons are paused on purpose. At the monthly limit, with extra try-ons off, shoppers see the Size Chart rather than an error. The page keeps answering “which size?” while the visual tool is quiet.
What each plan actually includes
The Free plan publishes Size Charts and can show the Size Chart link with Try On limited or paused. Estimate my size and the persistent Your size line are the Size Recommender, and that starts on Starter.
Virtual Try-On, Mirror Mode, and Build Your Outfit stay available when you want the visual question answered too. They are additional paths. They are not the gate in front of the chart.
How to set it up
-
Install AI Frame and add the theme blocks: the app block on the product template, then the Size Chart link on the size-label row. On Starter and above, place Sizing assist between the size picker and Add to cart. Leave the blocks out and the app still auto-places them.
- Build or import a Size Chart and assign it to the products or categories it belongs to. The link appears only where a chart is assigned.
-
To hide Try On, pause try-ons in settings, or choose which categories show Try On. Size charts stay on the products they are assigned to.
- On Starter and above, leave size recommendations on. Shoppers who estimate once see Your size on later products in the same browser.
Change a number in the chart once and every assigned product updates. You are not pasting a table into forty descriptions.
Where try-on still earns its place
Sizing tells the shopper which size. It does not show drape, length, or whether the shape suits them. Shopify’s own data on 3D and AR previews, shoppers who can visualize a product convert up to 94% better, is about that second question, and we wrote it up in The 94% Effect. Use both when you can. Use the Size Chart on its own the moment the photo flow would otherwise hide the size answer.

If you already have a chart and want the measurement rules behind it, body versus garment, what to include, what to leave out, that lives in How to make a clothing Size Chart.
Install AI Frame on the Shopify App Store. The Free plan is enough to put a Size Chart on the product page today.
